Six talented Canadian design firms were crystal gazing at the Interior Design Show this Februrary. Brothers Dressler, full scale + partners, Jacques Bilodeau, Munge Leung, Giannone Associates Architects and Powell & Bonnell constructed glittering prototypes and installations specifically for IDS and inspired by and featuring CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements. Crystal Clear was located in the centre aisle and and was presented by Audi and Azure.

Brothers Dressler

Jason and Lars Dressler represent the new direction in current furniture practice. Based in Toronto, they typically repurpose and upcycle salvaged objects and woods in their custom furniture, as well as utilize responsible resources. Their commitment to sustainability, and their skillful and thoughtful designs, place them at the forefront of Canadian furniture. For the Crystal Clear exhibit at IDS, the chandelier and some of the lamps below will all be based on a modular system of branching elements that make up the structure

Founded in 2002 by designers Yvonne Ho and Jenny Lee, full scale + partners is one of the remarkable new interior design firms transforming contemporary modern retail across Canada and Asia. With clients HMV, Johnny Rockets and H&M full scale is fast becoming the nation’s leading interior design studio. Their crystal-encrusted landscape for IDS is an interactive kaleidoscope that promises to be one of the highlights this year’s show.



Jacques Bilodeau

Jacques Bilodeau has brilliantly balanced art, architecture and design for more than 20 years. He likes to interrogate our domestic habits and often appropriates neglected and discarded materials, and objects. Based in Montreal, his critically acclaimed work is said to evoke poetry and activate the imagination. For IDS he is constructing a mystical 12-foot totem comprising stainless steel, black aluminum rings and Swarovski crystals.

Giannone Petricone Associates Architects is a Toronto based design firm, led since 1995 by principals Ralph Giannone and Pina Petricone. Partners in both life and work, they share a keen instinct for urban culture, a passion for fashioning alluring surfaces and an evolving and inspired search for unconventional uses of forms and materials to ensure freshness, richness and energy. Cyclorama is a lighting system that projects a series of moving crystal patterns to celebrate the beauty of the material.
