Opening Night Party
On January 24th, 2013, IDS13 played host to the biggest design party of the year: industry movers and shakers convened on the show floor for a night of local food, cocktails and a sneak peek at the products on display. Hundreds of attendees placed their bid on the 19 Real Good Chairs by Blu Dot, each reimagined by a designer, artist or illustrator, with auction proceeds benefitting the ONEXONE children’s foundation.
Blu Dot Auction
The IDS13 opening night party featured 19 Blu Dot Real Good Chairs, up for bid as part of the second annual auction to raise money for ONEXONE children’s charity. Each chair featured a different digital design by a designer, artist, fashion designer or illustrator. Attendees had the chance to bid on their favourite design and contribute to this important cause. The mission of ONEXONE is to improve the lives of children in Canada, the USA and around the world with programs dedicated to five fundamental pillars: water, health, education, play and food. After 3.5 days, the auction raised $14,000 for the children's charity.
Live Performances
The Soul Proprietor, Eon Sinclair of Bedouin Soundclash, guest vocalist Saidah Baba Talibah and DJ Filly, with music by The Only Living Boys, performed to a record number of party guests.
Offical Opening Night After Party
The celebration continued at the official IDS13 Opening Night After Party at the Thompson Hotel Toronto. Hosted by the Official Design Hotel of IDS13, Opening Night ticket holders sipped on specially designed cocktails and continued celebrating until the early hours of the morning.
