IDS 12

The Interior Design Show/IDS 12 is Canada’s largest contemporary design event. Since our inception in 1998, close to 600,000 design professionals, consumers and media have attended. The newest and most innovative in international and Canadian products are annually presented by 300 exhibitors. Inspirational exhibits feature both emerging and established designers; and highlight international interior design, architecture and industrial design trends. The most influential architects and designers from around the world share their design philosophies and experiences within the international keynote speakers program.

IDS is more than just a show. It is the total design experience.

History

IDS was created in Toronto in 1998 by Steven Levy and Shauna Levy. With a combined 25 years of trade and consumer show and design industry experience, the Levys recognized an opportunity in the market for a sophisticated, urban and contemporary design event where both design trade professionals and the public could access and specify the very best in design for the home. The first Interior Design Show was held in January 1999 with tremendous fanfare and was widely received by the media, design trade and consumers alike. Attended by 25,000 visitors, it was an unprecedented event in North America that was launched by Wallpaper* magazine founder, Tyler Brulé and featured speakers like The Netherlands’ Droog's Gijs Bakker and American furniture designer and manufacturer, Holly Hunt. Canada’s leading interior design firms, Cecconi Simone, Del Terrelonge, Gluckstein Design Planning, and Powell & Bonnell each created a 600-square-foot living space reflecting the most current in residential design trends and 275 exhibitors showed the best in design.

In 2001, The Interior Design Show was purchased by Chicago-based Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI), one of the world’s leading trade and consumer show producers, including Neocon Chicago, The Armory Show (NY), Volta (NY) and Volta Basel, and Art Chicago. Within its stable of other Canadian properties are IDS WEST (in Vancouver, BC),  One of a Kind ShowsIIDEX Neocon Canada Toronto International Art Fair (TIAF), The Artist Project and Construct Canada.

REASONS TO PARTICIPATE AND HOW IDS WILL HELP YOU GENERATE MORE BUSINESS:

  • Make face to face connections. Build a market plan that includes the most powerful marketing tool – face to face contact. We know that once you get them in your exhibit space, you’ve already made 50% of the sale.
  • Meet design professionals – thousands of them. Studies show that during recessionary times, trade show attendance increases. Trade shows become even more important for professionals to network and source new products.
  • Meet people who are in the market to buy. According to the IDS 11 survey, consumer attendees were there because they were specifically looking for a particular product for their homes.
  • Have your product seen by hundreds of thousands of people. With over 450 media in attendance, your product can end up being seen by hundreds of thousands of people via media outlets.
  • Claim your space within the industry. Show visitors do not notice who is not there, only who is. Do not leave things to speculation or rumour.
  • Be part of the solution. Participate in an event that celebrates and promotes the very industry from which you derive your livelihood, or where your company has its most vested interests.
  • Build a base of loyal customers. 60% of consumer attendees will purchase something from an exhibitor within 6 months of the show.
  • Generate a database. Use the 12 months following the show to market, sample and sell to a new set of potential clients.
